Aviles Street is renovated and  is a  cool, happening street rich with art, history, culture and great food.  This is the original arts district and at 11 Aviles Street the Hamblen-Holiday House contains 10 artist studio loft spaces and several retail businesses at street level including art galleries, a ladies clothing boutique, a leather craftsman shop, goldsmith jewelry and a shop with historic maps, prints and art.

Historic Aviles Street is located South of the Plaza de Constitution in Old Town.  There is an arch that says Aviles Street over the entry to the street off of King Street. It is possible to drive down the brick Aviles Street but experiencing the street at a slower pace is much better. The history of Aviles Street goes back many centuries. Its original name was Hospital Street because of the Spanish Military Hospital and other hospitals were located here through the centuries.

 As you head over the arch, south toward the Hamblen- Holiday House and past The Spanish Military Hospital Museum on the left next is  Antiques and Uniques Collectibles. The owners Denise and Larry Altman are featured on My Ghost Story and the building is certified haunted! You can book a ghost tour and participate in a investigation in the building .From the Neighborhood, Holly Mulkey  signs his poetry books  most Saturdays in the building that was a former 1800’s jail.To the left next are 2 art galleries Plum Gallery and Amiro, featuring awesome art! Gaufres and Goods are in between serving up authentic and yummy Polish and Greek food and drink. As you head south down Aviles Street on the right are the restaurants Nonnas Trattoria, La Herencia Cuban Cuisine and the Cafe' Sol Brasileirissimo with seating outside as well as Celler 6 which has a bar that stays open late and features live music. Artillery Lane crosses Aviles Street and The Segui- Kirby Smith  House which is now the Historical Library looks down Artillery  Lane that leads out to the Saint Augustine City Marina. On the corner of Artillery Lane and Aviles Street across from the General Kirby House is the Hamblen- Holiday House which now is home to interesting retail locations and artist loft studios.   Farther South on Aviles Street is Casa De Solano Bed and Breakfast, The Old Towne Park locating an old well and The O’Reilly House Museum. Across from the Hamblen- Holiday House is the Ximenez- Fatio House Museum.
